Why Isn’t Google Indexing My Pages? 9 Reasons and Fixes

Your pages are live, but Google indexing just isn’t happening. Before you blame bad luck, know this: “Discovered – currently not indexed” and “Crawled – not indexed” are among the most common reports in Search Console, and almost always have a fixable cause. Here are the 9 reasons Google isn’t indexing your pages — and how to fix each.

1. The page is too new

Google simply hasn’t gotten to it yet. Fix: submit the URL for crawling, or use an indexing tool to dispatch the crawl signal immediately instead of waiting.

2. A noindex tag is present

A stray <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> tells Google to stay away. Fix: view source, search for “noindex”, and remove it from pages you want indexed.

3. robots.txt is blocking the URL

A Disallow rule stops crawling entirely. Fix: check yoursite.com/robots.txt and make sure your important paths aren’t disallowed.

4. The canonical points elsewhere

If the page’s canonical tag names a different URL, Google indexes that one instead. Fix: ensure each page’s canonical points to itself unless you intend otherwise.

5. Thin or duplicate content

Pages with little unique value, or near-copies of other pages, often get crawled and skipped. Fix: add original, useful content and consolidate duplicates.

6. Weak internal linking

Orphan pages (nothing links to them) are hard for Google to find. Fix: link new pages from your homepage or related posts.

7. Crawl budget spent on junk

Large sites waste crawling on parameter URLs, filters and tag archives. Fix: noindex low-value pages so Googlebot spends its budget on pages that matter.

8. Slow or broken pages

Timeouts and server errors make Google give up. Fix: improve speed and make sure the page returns a clean 200 status.

9. Low site authority / new domain

Brand-new domains get crawled cautiously. Fix: build a few quality links and index them, publish consistently, and use an indexing tool to accelerate discovery while authority grows.

The fast path

Work through 2–8 first (remove blockers), then trigger a crawl. For one page, use Search Console’s Request Indexing. For many pages or backlinks, an indexing tool submits them all in one go and shows crawl status — turning weeks of waiting into minutes.
